One of the ports on our Alaskan cruise was Ketchikan. It’s known for being the salmon capital of the world!

I was super excited to be able to see a salmon run, where large groups of salmon travel up rivers and streams to lay their eggs.

A popular place to see this in action is called Creek Street, a historical boardwalk built on stilts over the Ketchikan Creek. It was pretty cool.

Salmon are famous for swimming against the flow to reach their destination.

I know that the level of visibility in the water can vary drastically by location. However, seeing how clouded the currents were made me wonder if the salmon struggled to push forward.

But then it hit me: their journey isn't guided by clear sight, but by a singular, instinctual purpose. No matter how murky the waters get, nothing can pull them off course

It reminded me about how life for us humans can feel like we’re swimming upstream. Things can get muddy and overwhelming sometimes and that can blur our vision.

It’s completely natural to feel frustrated and a bit scared when we can't see a clear path forward.

When that happens, it helps to change our perspective. Instead of stressing over what we can't see yet, we can ground our hope in our faith, our core values, and our long-term goals.

This shift can be the secret to finding the courage and stamina we need to keep going.
