Wednesday Wisdom - How does your Garden Grow?

My hubby Denny's first garden since his retirement is shaping up to be a great one. This year, he was so happy to be able to spend the time growing a lot of the plants ahead of time from seed, something he's always wanted to do but never had the time.

He loves the challenge of creating a garden each year. There’s something satisfying about building salads/meals and preserving veggies from things you’ve grown yourself.

If you’re a gardener, you know that it’s hard to predict how things will end up. Each year he puts in the work and does his best to balance its demanding maintenance with the other calls of summer. Life gets in the way, critters break in and eat his bounty (this year he's sure a turkey got in and ate his peas!) . Some years the weeds win and some years he does. It’s all part of the adventure.

He decided a few years back not to worry so much about what goes wrong, which makes sense. Worry does nothing but suck the joy out of us.

If we waited for a guarantee that our plans would turn out perfectly we’d never get the pleasure of enjoying those tasty radishes and tomatoes.

When you focus your energy on the positive outcomes that COULD occur it makes the bumps along the way less frustrating. It also makes the end results that much more rewarding.
