Wednesday Wisdom

This Sunday, I have the honor of presenting a patient led workshop on Healthcare Self-Advocacy at the National Scleroderma Foundation’s annual conference. I’ll be sharing information born out of a collaboration with the late Melissa Marquis, MS,RN who wrote the book, “Invisible; A Nurse-Turned Patient’s Resource to living well with Autoimmune Disease”.

Additionally, I’ll be debuting a new project I’ve been working on that is near and dear to my heart. Stay tuned for more on that!

When I was at my sickest with Scleroderma, I promised God that if he’d just see me through, I wouldn’t waste the blessing.

However what sounded like an amazing opportunity 6 months ago has me wrestling with an intense bout of imposter syndrome.

My self talk keeps vacillating between, “you’ve got this” and “who do you think you are that you should be doing this?”

If you’re like me, your mind likes to play games with you by creating false stories in your head, resulting in an unhealthy ride on the worry and self-doubt train.

This holds us back from realizing our potential.

As I worked to calm my mind and center my thoughts this week I remembered that we have the power to choose what thoughts we partner with.

When we can be positive, it’s a wonderful opportunity to support and build ourselves up. And that changes the narrative to, “why not me?”

I’m super proud of myself for taking on new challenges in spite of my health issues, no matter what the outcome.

Here’s to chasing dreams, changing the narrative and moving mountains!
