Wednesday Wisdom

A few years ago, a friend invited me to join a community Bible Study. While I was reluctant given my unpredictable health issues, something inside of me kept telling me to say yes. And so I did.

The Community Women’s Bible Study group was comprised of over 30 incredible women, each in different stages of their walk with God. Our last study ended in spring and at that meeting it was announced that after over a decade, the group would not be continuing, as our leaders felt called to pursue other endeavors.

I felt sad and scared, worried that I wouldn’t find a replacement to fill my cup.

This afternoon we gathered to have one last celebration. During the event, we were asked to stand by one of four words posted on the walls that described where we are currently in our own spiritual journeys. The options were Acknowledge, Rest, Follow and Trust.

I chose the word “acknowledge” along with only two other women. We were the smallest group by far. For each of us, the common thread was feeling like we were being called to do something, and acknowledging the obstacles that have kept us “stuck” and not able to move towards that calling.

When I was at my sickest, I would often hear a small voice prompting me to “acknowledge” that I would not be able to navigate this Scleroderma journey alone. I knew I needed to help of God for guidance, courage and hope, but wasn’t entirely sure how to access it.

Sometimes, that hope comes in being brave enough to say “yes” when your body might be saying, “oh heck no!” And that yes, leads you to people who ended up being a lifeline back to the world.

Although our group is ending, I’m confident that God is working on a new path to something that I may not even realize I need yet.

That offers the opportunity to embrace a period of REST as I wait for the next step. And then to find the courage to FOLLOW, TRUSTing that it will all work out as it should.
