Today I find myself hanging out at my local infusion center for the last of three iron infusions. After my hip replacement surgery, my hemoglobin and iron levels plummeted, exacerbating the crushing fatigue that often accompanies Scleroderma. I’m hoping these infusions will give me a much needed boost!

The last clinic that I went to for my Rituximab and IVIG infusions utilized the standard ultrasound imaging. They work better than the naked eye, but can still not yield foolproof results.

I was both tickled and fascinated to learn that this infusion clinic uses an infrared search light to locate “shy” veins.

This little handheld miracle projects an image of my veins onto my skin and has helped identify the correct viable veins each week. One poke and less stress. YES!! And now I want my own personal one to bring with me for all my lab work appointments!!

The image that projects onto my forearm reminds me of how in life,
sometimes the path of least resistance isn’t always clear.

In fact, oftentimes the best route is buried deep beneath the surface and difficult to access due to things like fear of failure, disappointment or even success in some cases.

The search light doesn't change the anatomy of the path, but it makes the invisible visible. Much like a map or GPS, this helps us take the guesswork out of the equation so that we can move forward more confidently.

In what areas of your life could you use a searchlight to help you make decisions?
